Kirklands Anti-Money Laundering Package

If anyone is going to Jail – make sure it is not you!
The problem with the risk based approach of the new Money Laundering Regulations is that they set out general principals of what your procedures must achieve, without giving you a step-by-step blueprint detailing what these procedures should be. Our anti-Money Laundering Package aims to provide that blueprint.

The Package – as reviewed by the Law Society
We are delighted to announce that The Law Society of Scotland has reviewed our Anti-Money Laundering Package and is promoting it to the profession through its website. As you can imagine we are thrilled with this endorsement.

The Package was originally developed for our ARTL.co.uk and Instant Office users and on the basis that it will serve 50 or so firms the Law Society of Scotland agreed to review it. As the Package developed it became apparent that, with minimal tailoring, it would serve as an Office Manual and training aid for most firms.

What is included in the Package?
(a) a CD containing, in Word format, the Users Manual. MLRO Reference Guide and Styles mentioned below (for a complete list see the Index of Contents on www.ARTL.co.uk); and

(b) a printed version of the documents on the CD presented as an A4 loose leaf Office Manual.

You amend the Word documents on the CD to fit your firms Risk profile. Then print out the amended documents and substitute them for the ones included in the loose leaf Office Manual.

What Word Documents are included on the CD?
They form 3 sections:
(1) The User Manual “What do I have to do to avoid the jail?” covers 28 topics
A step by step guide for staff on what needs to be done and when. It includes such gems as:

“The Risk Assessment Form, new client matters and Customer Due Diligence”,
“What can I accept as Name and Address ID?”,
“What should set the alarm bells ringing?”,
“What if I turned a blind eye to something suspicious?” and
“The police are in reception. What should I do?”

(2) MLRO’s Reference Guide “Welcome to the Hot Seat” covers 16 Topics
Gives the MLRO the reasoning behind why the Office Manual and styles are framed in the way they are. We suggest areas that might need tailoring and provide either the relevant reference material or links to it.

(3) 7 essential Money Laundering Styles
Risk Assessment Form, Terms of Engagement and 5 other Styles that you will need to have in place if you are to be compliant with the Regulations. These are supplied in Word format and you are invited to edit them to suit or to copy chunks into your existing styles.
