Role of the President
The President of the Society chairs Council meetings as well as the general meetings of the Society. The President is the figurehead for the profession and provides leadership to Council.
The President works with and supports the Society's Chief Executive by:
- Agreeing objectives with the Chief Executive and identifying with him the relevant priorities for the Society.
- Receiving reports and participating in discussions on policy and general issues.
The President, in conjunction with the Chief Executive and others, seeks to identify policy and strategic issues for the Society and influence the approach to their development.
The President also has a major role in the communication strategy of the Society to the wider public. The President's general communication role is based on a team-based approach between the office bearers and the Society's employees. The aim is to ensure that the profile of the Society is maintained within the profession, other jurisdictions, professional bodies, the general public and in the political arena.
