Accounts Certificates

In recent months the Society has become aware of some confusion amongst some practitioners when submitting accounts certificates. In consequence a number of certificates have had to be resubmitted which is inevitably time consuming for both the firms concerned and the Society. (2 February 2009)

For clarification, please note that -

Accounts Certificates must cover a period of no longer than 6 months and should not overlap any dates of previously submitted certificates
All relevant sections must be completed - of particular note are the different parts of the Additional Matters section found on the Schedule 1 form (for firms dealing with client monies)
Care must be taken to ensure that the figures submitted are accurate
Only use the current certificate and not the old style versions. One of the main changes is to Schedule 1, which now requires details of the Money Laundering Reporting Officer
Where appropriate, the certificate must be signed by two partners

For assistance with accounts certificates please contact a member of the Guarantee Fund department on 0131 476 8197 or email gf@lawscot.org.uk. Up-to-date copies of the certificates can be downloaded here.
