Lorna Jack joined the Society in January 2009.  Prior to the Law Society, Lorna was based in the United States, as President Americas for Scottish Development International (SDI), the Scottish Government's trade and investment arm. In this role, she was responsible for operations across five locations in the US, Canada, Mexico and Brazil and at an early stage she delivered a large operational restructuring and redirection of this team. Under her leadership, the team delivered significant gains on its inward investment agenda (including new and expansion projects with Dell, Amazon, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Trump and Wyeth). They also supported around 150 Scottish companies every year to tackle the Americas market. This included the option of co-locating with SDI in cities throughout the US when companies were making their first real step into the North American market.
Previously, Lorna was Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise (SE) Forth Valley, one of 12 local enterprise companies covering Scotland. Prior to her appointment to the Chief Executive role in 2000, she was Director of Operations for two years. Before joining SE Forth Valley, she was Head of the SE Global Companies Enquiry Team. She has also served as Head of the Food Team at SE as well as head of a team at SE Grampian which provided training to the food and manufacturing sectors.
A chartered accountant by profession, she completed her training with Arthur Andersen and spent six years in financial management roles with a UK telecoms and cable television company before joining SE. She is a graduate of Aberdeen University and for four years sat on the board of the university's US Development Trust.

Henry Robson

Henry took on the role of Deputy Chief Executive in January 2007, after a similar role at the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations. His previous career was in marketing, research and advertising and as a business consultant. At the Society, Henry has responsibility for Finance, HR, IT, Business Development and Facilities/Central Resources teams and plays a key role in our business, financial and corporate planning. He also deputises directly for Lorna Jack when necessary.

Liz Campbell

Liz leads the team responsible for the policy aspects of the route to qualification and solicitors CPD, accreditation of providers of the components of solicitors' qualification, work with schools and engagement with new lawyers.  She started work at the Law Society of Scotland in 1990 in the Update Department before moving to the Education and Training team where she has been Director since 2000.  She is a graduate of the University of East Anglia and of the Open University where she obtained her MBA while working at the Society.  Her previous work experience is in education administration and adult education.

 

Michael Clancy

Michael has worked for the Society since 1987.  Prior to that, he was a partner in the Glasgow firm of Franchi, Wright and Company, Glasgow. He was educated at Glasgow University (LLB, LLM) and London University (LLB Hons).   He is Director of Law Reform which coordinates the Society's activities in connection with law reform proposals in the Scottish Parliament, United Kingdom Parliament and with the European Institutions. He was appointed O.B.E. in 2002.

David Cullen

By training and qualification David is a Chartered Secretary and was appointed as the Society's Registrar in March 2002. He is also a qualified investment analyst having previously worked for Scottish Widows Investment Managers. David is head of the Registrar's team which deals with all aspects of the process for the admission of Scottish solicitors and their subsequent qualification including their professional indemnity insurance arrangements. The work of this team also involves responsibility for the principal governance arrangements of the Society around Committee, Council and General Meetings. David started working for the Law Society of Scotland in 1991, firstly as part of the Law Reform team.

Ken Cunningham

Head of Human Resources

Ken joined the Society in 2003 as its first Head of HR.  His previous experience covers 20 years in various large scale manufacturing companies after initially commencing his HR career within local government. Ken heads up a small team of three who are responsible for the delivery of HR processes and systems consistent with the Society's needs which includes recruitment, pay, benefits, induction, training and management development. Ken is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Personnel & Development.

 

Kevin Lang

Director of Communications, Marketing & Public Affairs

Kevin started working for the Law Society of Scotland in September 2010 after previously working as the Head of Communications for the airport operator BAA Scotland, covering Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.  A graduate from Edinburgh University, Kevin went on to work in the House of Commons, running the busy office of an Edinburgh based Member of Parliament before returning to Edinburgh in 2004. Kevin now leads the team responsible for the Society's internal and external communications.  This includes media relations, the Journal and e-bulletin, social media, membership engagement, marketing and stakeholder relations.

Neil Stevenson

Neil Stevenson joined the Education team of the Society in 2004, having previously worked on medical and dental training for NHS Education for Scotland.  He holds an Edinburgh law degree and a masters in management, and has previous experience in the oil and gas sector and management research.  Neil is responsible for the confidential helpline service provided by the solicitors in Professional Practice and for the provision of CPD to the profession through 'Update'.  The Professional Support team focuses on ensuring the Society listens to and learns from its members, campaigns on their behalf, and provides support services to individuals and firms. He is a director of both the independent charity LawCare and the Scottish Arbitration Centre.

 

Ken Tudhope

Director of Finance & Central Services

Ken is responsible for the Finance and Central Services teams including the IT platform, budgeting, production of relevant financial information and long-term financial planning for the Society. He has worked with the Society since June 2011 following his role as Head of Finance at Atrium Homes.  Prior to that he spent nine years as an audit partner in the chartered accountancy firm Alexander Sloan, covering both the Glasgow and Edinburgh offices. He was the firm's Independent Financial Adviser as well as Money Laundering Reporting Officer. Ken is a graduate of Glasgow University with a degree in Political Economy.

Philip Yelland

Director of Regulation

Philip joined the Society in 1990 having previously been a solicitor in private practice in Edinburgh. Initially he worked in the Complaints Department and took charge of that Department in 1991. In September 2006 he took over as the Director of Regulation which covers the teams dealing with complaints, financial compliance/Guarantee Fund, interventions, regulation liaison and the Civil Legal Quality Assurance regime. Philip is also heavily involved in work relating to the implementation of the Legal Services Act around the creation of licensed providers. Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Philip worked in the civil service for four years.
