The Law Society of Scotland is the professional body for over 11,000 Scottish solicitors. With our overarching objective of leading legal excellence, we strive to excel and to be a world-class professional body, understanding and serving the needs of our members and the public. We set and uphold standards to ensure the provision of excellent legal services and to ensure the public can have confidence in Scotland’s legal profession.
The Law Society of Scotland is seeking a commercially minded Operations Manager to play an integral role within the Member Services team. The post-holder will have significant responsibility across several vital aspects of our work and will be expected to contribute significantly towards ensuring our member’s on-going access to outstanding CPD led conferences and seminars.
Working within the Member Services for CPD team, the Operations Manager will have responsibility for three main areas: to manage and co-ordinate all logistics pertaining to our flagship events; to manage and co-ordinate venue hire of our own conference centre, including venue sales and marketing; to manage and co-ordinate back-end office systems and finance reporting.
Each year the Society runs high profile annual events ranging from dinners to large scale conferences. The successful applicant will be expected to project manage these and work collegiately with all stakeholders involved in shaping these events, including our office-bearers and colleagues across the Society.
You will be comfortable liaising with senior figures within the legal sector, and representing the Society with clients, contractors and our members. You will be customer-focused and financially astute, with an ability to see the bigger picture and make informed, sensible decisions. Furthermore, you will have first-class administrative skills and significant experience of managing back-end systems to ensure bookings and finance reports are both concise and up-to-date at all times.
In addition, you will have experience of working in venue hire. As mentioned above, the successful applicant will take responsibility for the venue hire of Atria Conference Centre. This will necessitate developing the sales & marketing strategy, and building and maintaining relationships with venue brokers and repeat customers.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate the ability to undertake each of the tasks above with equal aplomb. Candidates will possess a relevant qualification, or have demonstrable experience, have highly developed oral and written skills and have a proven track record in the field of event management. They must have excellent administrative skills and be able to work on several projects simultaneously, whilst maintaining their attention to detail and focus.
The post involves some out of office hours and occasional overnight stays. A full driving license is essential.
This is a great opportunity to join an award winning team, offering an excellent working environment. This role is ideal for candidates with proven conference production and project management experience looking to work in the corporate sector or simply looking for a new challenge.
As an organisation our values are respect, openness, progress, inclusion and integrity. We strive to embed these in all our interactions with colleagues, members, stakeholders and members of the public.
