Mentoring relationships facilitate personal and professional development through support, challenge and review. The role of mentors can involve:

  • listening to concerns
  • identifying problems
  • modelling appropriate behaviour
  • confronting negativity
  • challenging views and actions reviewing current practice
  • helping to consolidate learning

Mentoring scheme aims and objectives

The aim of the scheme is to support students, trainees and solicitors in managing and developing their careers. Scheme objectives are:

  • share knowledge and expertise
  • support mentees with goal setting and career management
  • provide information about different options and career paths
  • support mentees in taking responsibility for their own skills and career development

Apply to be a mentor

We are currently recruiting new mentors! Interested individuals should submit an application form to mentoring@lawscot.org.uk.

Mentors will then be required to attend a full day's training funded by the Law Society at our offices in Edinburgh.

We currently accept applications from interested parties in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Perth, Inverness, Edinburgh and those who frequently travel and so might be flexible as to location of mentoring meetings.

We are currently accepting applications from solicitors who want to be mentored. If you are interested in taking part in the programme, email mentoring@lawscot.org.uk to request an application form.
