The Law Society runs a programme of events called 'CPD for new lawyers' which is open to law students, Diploma students, trainees and solicitors up to 5 years to attend.

Remember Student Extra members can attend all of our CPD for new lawyers seminars until 31st October 2016 free of charge!

Dundee

Sheriff court procedure - CANCELLED
1.5 hours verifiable CPD
The seminar will address the key rules of Sheriff Court ordinary actions and where to find appropriate comment and guidance. In particular, the seminar looks at the rules relating to initiating and defending actions, undefended actions, adjustment and amendment, options hearings, debates, motions, proofs and incidental procedure.

Introduction to advocacy skills/ court of session special procedure - CANCELLED

Introduction to Advocacy Skills is designed to equip New Lawyers with the fundamental skills of written and oral advocacy and together with the seminar on Sheriff Court Practice, provides a solid foundation to ensure that those first steps into the Sheriff Court are taken with confidence. The seminar will address the key components of effective communication, case analysis and preparation, the structure of written and oral presentation, presenting motions and arguing debates.

Handling clients
1.5 hour verifiable CPD
No matter what area of law you are practising in you will come into contact with clients. Whether your clients are corporate, members of the public or represent organisations, it is important that you understand how to interact with them.
This seminar will explore a variety of situations giving examples of how to approach different clients and understand the needs and requirements of each client.

10th November 2016
Edinburgh

Wellbeing in the workplace... why it matters1 hour verifiable CPD
Do you want to understand the importance of wellbeing in the professional context? There are numerous benefits including greater self-esteem, motivation and resilience not to mention improved productivity. This seminar will help you appreciate what it is about the workplace that can compromise wellbeing and help you identify strategies to improve it.
