IPO-Consultation International Instrument of Print
Disabilities
The UK is continuing to seek improvements in the
international legal framework to improve access for persons with
print disabilities to copyright materials.
The UK has in place legislative provisions that facilitate access
to copyright material for persons with print disabilities within
the UK. Similar provisions are found in other EU Member States.
However there are still many countries that do not have a
legislative mechanism that allows access to copyright works for
persons with print disabilities. Even where countries do allow for
the making of accessible copies, those copies cannot be sent to a
third country (they cannot be sent across borders).

Consultation on the regulations on advertising activity and
trading around London 2012
This consultation, produced by the Department for Culture, Media
and Sport (DCMS) sought views on the proposed regulations of
traders in and around London and Glasgow during the Olympics
2012.
The UK, Scottish and Welsh Governments are developing secondary
legislation to regulate advertising activity and trading in open
public places around Olympic and Paralympic events during the 2012
Games.
The regulations will only apply to a small number of streets near
to Olympic and Paralympic venues for a limited time.
Amending the Patents Act to provide for online patent document
inspection
This consultation was issued by the Intellectual Property Office
(IPO). It proposes a new copyright exception to allow the
Intellectual Property Office to introduce an online patent document
inspection service. The proposed exception would be introduced into
Section 118 of the Patents Act 1977.
Amendments to Design Legislation
The consultation document presents two proposals to equalise the
remedies available in the UK for innocent infringement of UK
registered designs and Community designs.
It is proposed to either limit the liability of those who
unintentionally infringe Community designs in line with the current
law governing the infringement of UK registered designs, or
alternatively to remove the limitation of liability in respect of
unintentional infringement of UK registered designs.
