New lawyers survey is chance for new solicitors & students to shape the future

The next generation of solicitors has been urged to take the opportunity to shape the future of the profession.

The Law Society of Scotland is carrying out the first national survey of new lawyers, which includes students and trainees. Education and Training Development Officer, Heather McPhee, said the deadline for responses was approaching.

She added: “We’ve had a great response so far – more than 170 people have completed the survey since it was launched last month. But we want even more to give us their views. It only takes five or ten minutes and everyone who completes it can enter a draw to win an Apple iPod touch.”

She explained that the Society was currently reviewing its services to improve engagement with all new lawyers.

She added: “It is vital that the Society develops relationships not only with its current members, but also those who are the future of the Scottish legal profession. To do that, we need feedback from new lawyers. The more feedback we get, the better we can respond to their needs.”

The survey is part of the Society’s New Lawyers’ Engagement Strategy, which was launched in 2007. The deadline for responses is the end of February.

The Society considers new lawyers to be those considering or currently studying law, trainees and solicitors up to five-years qualified.
