INTERIM REPORT: REVIEW OF SUPPORT FOR IN-HOUSE SOLICITORS

This independent review report, written and produced by Tony Guise, aims to collate themes from the research undertaken prior to Mr Guise preparing his final report. The interim report highlighted issues that required more discussion and understanding, to provoke debate, and to aid the next phase of work.

The report does not make any final conclusions or recommendations, but collates what has been said so far to allow those involved to respond with clarification and further evidence.  It also allowed for ideas to be refined and sharpened ahead of the final report which will be published later in the year.

To ensure that all members could contribute at this stage, the Society published the report in full to  welcome views from in house solicitor members.  One 'focus group' to discuss the report took place on 17 May 2011, and the findings were also extensively debated at an Emerging thinking event on 7 September 2011. Appreviated reports of the matters discussed at each meeting can be found here for the meeting on 17 May and here for the meeting on 7 September.

We  encouraged local and national groups of members to discuss and respond to the report.  The deadline for all responses was Friday 16 September 2011.

The interim report is available to download here

An extensive set of appendices underpins the work of the report.  These are referred to in the main text, but not included in the download above as they significantly add to the length of the report.  The appendices can be download below, either with the full report, as a set, or individually.

In some cases these appendices collate a variety of sources for the Interim Report simply in the format they were initially available to the review team (without significant formatting) but that key information will be reflected in the Final Report in a more accessible form.
