Employed solicitors

More than 3,100 solicitors are employed in the largest 30 firms, as measured by partner number. Most of these firms are located in the central belt, with smaller concentrations in London, Aberdeen and Dundee. More than 3,400 individual solicitors are also employed by firms throughout Scotland in partnerships of up to and over ten partners.

The Society offers professional support to these members through the provision of CPD through Update and the services of the professional practice team and development officer Heather McKendrick. All members receive the Journal.

In the current economic climate, professional issues may affect individual employed solicitors, including questions of redundancy, locum working and re-training. Networking opportunities can be created for this group by the Society and further information is available at the support in the downturn page.
