CPD for New Lawyers
In CPD year 2008-2009, Update and the Scottish Young Lawyers Association (SYLA) are delighted to announce the launch of a CPD series specifically for "new lawyers". In early 2008 the Society ran a pilot project, with courses on Dual Qualification and Instructing Advocates. The Society's New Lawyers' Coordinator has written in the Scotsman (download a PDF of that article from the right hand side of this page) and the Journal of the Law Society of Scotland on CPD for New Lawyers.
Courses will be of direct interest and relevance to solicitors who are experiencing their first years in the profession (and trainee solicitors) and will be a mixture of soft-skills training, and general training which transcends practice areas.
The first seminar in the series is in association with SLAB and is "A practical guide to helping your clients get legal help through civil legal assistance". For full details of the events in Glasgow on 8 October and Dundee on 12 November and to register, click here.
The October 2008 - June 2009 seminar programme can be downloaded from the right hand side of this page, and specific details of each course, when registration opens, will be available through Update,
To suggest courses we should be running to meet the needs of new lawyers, contact Collette Paterson, New Lawyers' Coordinator - newlawyers@lawscot.org.uk or SYLA - educating@syla.co.uk
