DISCUSSING THE DETAIL

The next stage of this project is now underway, the "Discussing the Detail" consultation.

"Discussing the Detail" sets out key policy considerations and the detail of proposals for each pre-qualification stage*. The separate sections of the education, training and CPD review are:

Foundation stage – content

Foundation stage – accreditation framework

Professional Education and Training stage 1

Professional Education and Training stage 2

Continuing Competence, Ongoing Development

*NEWS In order to keep the focus of 'Discussing the Detail' on the pre-qualification stages of training it was decided not to include discussion of the future of CPD for the practising profession.Discussing the details… Paper 2: The future of postqualification legal education and training in Scotlandis now available to download from the right hand side of this page. Whilst the Society continues to pursue a single project examining all stages of education and training, two separate papers at this stage of consultation allow them to be more focussed on the different issues and requirements pre and post qualification.

The three PDF documents on the right hand side of this page are the main "Discussing the Detail" paper, and the "Foundation Outcomes" and "Foundation Supplementary Matrix"  which accompany the main paper.   This is the "green paper" style document we promised we would produce after the initial consultation responses were analysed, and project leads appointed to take forward the individual strands of the education and training review.

Click here to read January's article in the Journal of the Law Society of Scotland, in which the project leads discuss their section of the project.

The  "Discussing the Detail" consultation is based on wide questions, with an opportunity for free text response. The deadline for responses has been extended to Wednesday, 30th April 2008. In addition, and as always, constructive views and feedback are welcome to: lizcampbell@lawscot.org.uk.
