Intellectual Property as the key to a secure future
DATE: Friday 24 April, 12.30 to 2.00pm.
(A sandwich lunch and WIPD cake will be provided from 12 noon)

SPEAKERS: Martin Layton, Business Services Manager, Intellectual Assets Centre, Glasgow and Patrick Stewart, Director of Legal & Business Affairs, Manchester United Limited, Manchester.

CHAIRS: Roisin Higgins, Advocate and Intellectual Property (IP) law specialist and Graeme McWilliams, Legal Adviser, Standard Life.

On World IP Day (WIPD) 2009, the focus of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is on promoting green innovation as the key to a secure future. IP, innovation and the environment are very topical areas for modern day Scotland. Our speakers will consider the increasingly key role IP has to play in business in general, as well as the ongoing need to protect and respect IP, from both Scottish Government-supported agency and commercial in-house legal perspectives.

Consisting of an introduction, two 35 minute talks and a WIPD/IP Panel Q&A session at the end.

More about World IP Day: In 2000, the Geneva based World Intellectual Property Organization designated 26 April as World IP Day (the date their Convention came into force). World IP Day aims to make us aware of the impact of IP on daily life, teach us about how IP protection promotes creativity and innovation, celebrate the contribution of creativity/innovation to society and encourage respect for IP rights. WIPO have encouraged the celebration of WIPD during the week commencing 20 April, as 26 April is a Sunday.
