We all know that good managers and leaders make strong businesses. Having an openness to understanding what makes a good leader, and not just a likeable or agreeable one, requires sober analysis and a number of essential component parts to be in place. And it is an established truth good lawyers don’t necessarily make good business managers. Importantly, you must be open to new ideas, and prepared to identify and work on those areas you are short. There is no fixed point to reach these.
Made up of six distinct modules, led by some of the UK’s best coaches and trainers, this 20 hour certificated course will help equip and inform solicitor members how to perform the other part of your job away from black letter law: being a successful manager and a thoughtful leader.
On this course, you will gain exclusive access to experienced coaches and trainers who will help you identify techniques to add value to your business by identifying the potential in yourself and your staff.
This course is suitable for both in-house and private practice solicitors.
This course is priced at £960+VAT, however book now and claim an exclusive 10% early bird discount!
Full certification consists of 15 hours of training and 5 hours of private study, fulfilling all of your CPD requirements for 2021/22.
Please note there are only 20 spaces available on this course.

- Effectiveness workshop
- Identifying key career drivers
- Knowing what to avoid: horror stories and lost trust
- Vision and cause
These two participative sessions will be led by Russell Borland and Thomas Chalmers, of Leading Figures. Leading Figures are coaching consultants who specialise in working with professional services clients.
Following on from the opening session, any analysis of performance and determination to advance professionally necessarily starts with the requirement for improved understanding of our own habits, behaviours and thoughts. What sorts of patterns emerge from an objective analysis of your own behaviours and mindset? How much are these pre-determining your effectiveness as a colleague and as a leader?
Over two ninety minute sessions, Thomas and Russell will work with the cohort to establish:
- Aspirations and Challenges to 'leading oneself'
- Inform and Educate on the Mindset for Success
Participants will learn about different personality types and how you can make adjustments to your style that will significantly enhance your enjoyment and effectiveness at work.
Michael Fleming is a former law firm commercial litigation equity partner, so he gets your world. In his new career, he has spent the last 15 years travelling the planet helping 25,000+ lawyers to advance their Business Development skills.
In this session, he will share a whole range of really practical tips, tools and techniques to help you to convert more contacts into clients and get more work from your existing clients. Expect to be motivated and inspired to get stuck into BD with renewed vigour!
Coaching psychologist, Manjula Bray, specialises in section systems and helping people add value to their business by identifying the potential of themselves and their staff.
In this session, expect to learn more about:
- Emotional intelligence and positive psychology in assessment, selection and development
- Developing yourself and others
- 'Wokeness': bias and diversity
- Creating psychological safety to enhance the probability of reaching everyone's full potential
- How to manage in a VUCA world (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity)
Good leaders make informed decisions. The best leaders have reputations for being able to look round corners. Prescience isn’t innate – the numbers at your firm will tell you all you need to know about its health and future. This highly accessible workshop with Scott Foster will give members a unique insight into the real do’s and don’ts.
The final two session will be split up into 2 X 2 hour sessions. These sessions will focus on two key areas:
- Giving and receiving feedback
In order to achieve partnership or GC status, there are several key building blocks that need to be in place to be successful.
Lawyers at this stage of their career have already demonstrated a sincere commitment both to the firm and the legal profession but the step-up to being emotionally, financially and morally responsible for their firm is huge.
The path is littered with obstacles – your team and their issues, your own client’s challenges, billing and the expectation to have strategic perspective and vision in an unfamiliar landscape.
With training devised by a qualified commercial property lawyer and an executive coach for lawyers, Hannah Beko is ideally placed to ensure these closing sessions will help contextualise the course materials into working as a solicitor, whether in private practice or in-house.
