3.5 hours verifiable CPD or 3.5 hours Advocacy focused CPD
Substantial changes have been made to criminal court procedure and practice concerning vulnerable witnesses, particularly child witnesses at this stage of implementation. This seminar will welcome expert speakers who will address exactly that the Act and Commencement Regulations mean. You will be provided with the opportunity to develop vital drafting and advocacy skills.
The Vulnerable Witnesses (Criminal Evidence) (Scotland) Act 2019 (Commencement No. 1 and Transitional Provision) Regulations 2019 ensure that any child witness under the age of 18 giving evidence in the most serious cases in the High Court, will be allowed to have it pre-recorded, sparing them the trauma of giving evidence during a trial.
This seminar will provide guidance to both instructing solicitors and solicitor advocates. We will also highlight now that the measures are likely for eventual extension to the Sheriff Court and therefore all Sheriff Court practitioners are warmly encouraged to participate.
Whilst the Act will be phased in implementation, this seminar, by bringing together insight and early-stage guidance from a variety of perspectives will ensure that you have the clarity you need on how the change in the court’s procedure and expectations will be implemented.
