Becoming a specialist

Specialist accreditation is availble to solicitors holding a current practising certificate from the Society.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate significant experience in the area of the specialism during each of the five years preceding the application. This experience will all be post-qualification experience. This means it will run from the date that the applicant qualified as a solicitor. This will generally be from the date a solicitor's training contract was discharged, regardless of whether they were admitted as a solicitor during their traineeship.

There is a wide selection of specialisms available. Please see the full list of current specialisms.

If your area of expertise is not represented, you might consider proposing a new specialism.

You can download the application form, guidance notes and reference forms.

We offer guidance to help you decide if you are ready to apply for accreditition.
