Cybersecurity and the law firm

Date: 27th August 2019

Time: 09:00 - 13:45

Location:
The Studio

CPD Hours: 3hours 30minutes

This event will demonstrate how to identify the cyber threats to your business and ensure that you have the right policies and procedures in place to minimise them.

Just three years ago a major law firm suffered a data breach, lost all its customer data, had its reputation destroyed and ultimately imploded.

While the Mossack Fonseca data breach and the subsequent release of the Panama Papers in April 2016 might have been expected to have been a wake-up call for the legal profession, far too many law firms are unaware of the potential risks to client data, and in turn the firm’s reputation and financial viability. Last year’s implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation makes this issue even more stark, with maximum fines of €20 million or 4% of turnover for an unreported data breach. In spite of this, clients continue to report concern that law firm data is insufficiently protected, and we have seen a number of high-profile data scares in the last year.

At this event you will:

  • Understand the key cyber threats facing law firms.
  • Develop cybersecurity policies that will minimise risk and protect your practice.
  • Ensure that your colleagues are aware of risks and trained accordingly.
