Date: 18th February 2020

Time: 17:30 - 19:15

Lawscot student roadshow - Aberdeen Society of Advocates in Aberdeen
Concert Court
Broad Street
AB10 1BS

Do you want to know more about a career outside a big firm? Come along to find out about traineeship opportunities in house and with our high street firms.

What's happening?

Are you an LLB or Diploma student and keen to find out about working in-house or for a high street firm? We know your law fair isn't always the best place to do this, so we're bringing employers to you for a separate event. We'll be focusing on how to find opportunities in-house or in small firms, as well as exploring what career progression looks like in these environments.

Representatives from high street firms and in-house organisations will feature in a chaired Q&A session to answers questions like:

  • What do high street employers look for in candidates?
  • What is the best way to approach a high street employer?
  • Do speculative applications actually work?
  • What does a traineeship in-house look like?
  • Where can you find out about in-house employers?

Please note you must be registered as a student associate to attend this event. It only takes two minutes to sign up and is totally free!

Coming to a city near you...

Not based near Aberdeen but keen to attend? No problem! We're hosting these roadshows at other locations throughout Scotland:

You are welcome to attend any roadshow that is most convenient to you, regardless of where you go to university.

Places are limited based on the capacity of the venue. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

  • Grab a drink and take a seat!

  • A (very!) short presentation from Yasemin Guven, Careers Development Officer at the Law Society, including an employability skills refresh and information on where you can get more support.

  • The panel will be a mixture of in-house and high-street employers, who are all invested in talking to students about the benefits of working in their fields and considering a career outside big firms.

There will be the opportunity to ask questions on the evening, but also to submit questions in advance. We advise definitely making the most of this to ensure you get as much out of the session as possible! You can ask anything from how to find out who high street employer are, to understanding how to progress your career in-house longer term.

  • If you didn't get a chance to ask the panellists what you wanted, you can speak to them one on one after the panel. This is also a great opportunity to get to know other students in your area.

This is a free event
