Why attend?

Join us for the first in our new series of online roundtables for high street solicitors.

The changing face of the profession is putting greater demands on traditional high street firms, with succession planning and talent attraction in smaller and rural firms becoming particularly difficult. Through our roundtable series we are seeking to work with high street practitioners to understand your specific concerns and challenges; share best practice; and develop additional support.

The event will be hosted by the Society's Past President, Murray Etherington. We’ll also be joined by representatives from our Careers & Outreach team.

What will we discuss?

This first event will focus on recruitment and retention. Some of the issues we’ll explore include:

  • Recruitment: what are the biggest recruitment challenges your firm faces?
  • Retention: what are the main factors contributing to staff turnover in high street firms? What are some strategies for improving employee satisfaction and retention? What mentoring (particularly for young solicitors) and professional development practices can be put in place?
  • Work life balance / wellbeing: discuss the need for, and importance of, work-life balance in the legal profession; Explore ideas for flexible work arrangements and their impact on staff wellbeing/ staff retention.
Who can attend?

This session is open to any solicitor working on the high street who is keen to contribute their views and experiences to this important discussion.

We are particularly keen to have a broad range of geographic areas represented.

How do I sign up?

To register please email memberservices@lawscot.org.uk.

*Please note that spaces on the roundtable will be capped and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If there is a high demand, we may organise a second session or breakout groups within the original session to ensure meaningful discussion can be facilitated.
