Judges wanted for Donald Dewar Memorial Debating Tournament

03 October 2013 | tagged News release

The Law Society is calling for judges for the Donald Dewar Memorial Debating Tournament 2013/14.

Schools from all over Scotland take part in what is now Scotland's largest annual schools debating competition. A panel of three judges is required for each debating session.

The Society's Heather McKendrick said: "We get great support from our judges each year, particularly during the opening rounds when up to 128 teams from schools right across Scotland, from Kirkwall to Kirkcudbright, take part.

"No experience of judging is necessary through an interest and experience in debating is always welcome. We'd encourage our members or others who have been involved in debating before to get in touch with us if they are interested in becoming a judge in this year's tournament - we are particularly looking for judges in rural areas for the early rounds of the competition.

"There is a tremendous amount of debating talent in schools and we are looking forward to meeting all the debating teams taking part in the first rounds next month (November)."
