The Society's Council plays a key role in the work that we do and each year a number of constituency seats, lay member seats, and co-opted seats come up for election or open recruitment. Co-opted seat
Banking and Finance Sector (Co-opted seat)
The Council of the LSS is seeking to co-opt a member to bring valuable expertise from the banking and finance sector.

What we are seeking
Applications are sought from in-house solicitors working in-house in the private sector and within the financial services industry.
Time Commitment and Expenses
The Council meets around nine times per year (plus any ad-hoc meetings which may occasionally arise).
Council meetings are currently held on Friday mornings from 9:30 to 12:30 approx. Meetings are generally agreed in August for meetings taking place next year. Dates for 2026 are: 29 January (afternoon meeting) followed by a dinner, 30 January (Development session), 27 February, 27 March, 24 April, 29 May, 26 June, 18 September, 16 October, 20 November (Online) and 11 December.
Council meets on a hybrid basis (in person in Edinburgh and with an option to join via MS Teams).
This role also involves reading papers in advance and responding to correspondence outside meetings.
This position is voluntary, although reasonable expenses may be claimed.
Length of Term
The appointment is for three years, commencing in November 2025.
