As part of our series of events highlighting the work we do to respond to potential changes in the law, Lynda Towers, Convener of our Mental Health and Disability Sub-Committee, will delve into adults with incapacity (AWI) legislation and the pressing need for reform.
This one-hour, free to attend session will give you an opportunity to share your views with Lynda and will cover:
- The Committee’s engagement with proposals for AWI reform over the last decade, and the reasons why modernising legislation is urgently needed.
- How the Committee is representing the profession in the Scottish Government’s current programme of work to modernise the AWI system.
- The work the Committee is doing to engage with the Office of the Public Guardian and other stakeholders.
This session offers a chance for AWI practitioners and those with an interest in promoting and protecting the human rights of people affected by the AWI Act to hear about how the Law Society is helping to shape reforms to this important area of law and to share your views to inform this engagement.
