In the fifth of our series of events highlighting the work we do to respond to potential changes in the law, Convener of the Rural Affairs sub-committee, Jamie Whittle, and Member of the Rural Affairs sub-committee, Stephen Cranston, will provide an overview of the recent activity the Law Society of Scotland has undertaken to advocate for positive changes to legislation impacting rural Scotland, including our work in advocating for modernisation of crofting law.
In this one-hour, free to attend session hosted by Law Society President Patricia Thom, we will cover:
- The work the Rural Affairs sub-committee is undertaking on the ongoing Crofting and Scottish Land Court Bill, including its work over the years in advocating for modernisation and changes to current crofting law.
- How the Rural Affairs sub-committee has worked with other sub-committees to scrutinise and improve legislation that impact rural Scotland over the course of the 2021-2026 Parliamentary term, including the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill and Agriculture and Rural Communities (Scotland) Bill.
This session offers a chance for practitioners to hear how the Law Society is helping shape reforms to this important area of law and to share your views to inform this engagement.
