Partner, GC, specialist, freelancer? Inspirational speakers lined up for our career development roadshow

28th February 2019 | Career growth , Professional support , New lawyers

Olivia Parker, our Careers Development Officer, talks about our upcoming Career Development Roadshow and reveals our fantastic line-up of panel members so far for each location.

Where do you want your career to take you?

Do you want to go down the well-known and traditional path of becoming a partner? Do you want to be a senior leader for an in-house organisation in industry? Do you dream of working more flexibly and are keen on freelancing? Do you want to gain extended rights of audience and become a solicitor advocate? Would you like to start your own firm? Or become an accredited specialist in your field?

The career landscape is varied and there are a lot of options open to you. Employers are becoming more accommodating of flexible options and individuals are thinking far beyond the traditional routes of progression. Success doesn’t just mean reaching the top of the organisational tree; it might look more like having a great balance between personal and working life, branching out to see more of the world and use your Scots Law qualification abroad, or fulfilling a different career aspiration.

Our Career Development Roadshow is designed to help you get inspired

The events we’re hosting in March 2019 in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Aberdeen will see a panel of speakers sharing their experience. From different workplaces and with a range of job titles and skills, our speakers will be able to answer your questions on progression options and offer their advice and insight.

Laura Irvine, Partner and Solicitor Advocate, Davidson Chalmers
Norma Shippin, Director of the Central Legal Office and Accredited Specialist, NHS Scotland
Adrian Smith, Commercial Director, Anderson Strathern
Nicole Hatch, Freelancer with Vario, Pinsent Masons

Glasgow, 6-8pm Thursday 14 March:

We will be doing a panel Q&A session for most of the event but there will also be time to meet fellow attendees and speakers during the facilitated networking or informal drinks.

These events are designed to help you as our members, so they’re completely free to attend. We’re delighted to be supported by our Wealth Management Partners, Brewin Dolphin, who will be hosting our Glasgow and London-based events and who will do a short introduction at each of the sessions about how they can support you.
