Stevenson v Donoghue - The Immortal Snail - 90th anniversary conference papers published

22nd March 2023

Papers from a global conference hosted by the Law Society of Scotland to mark the anniversary of the Donoghue v Stevenson case, have been published online.

The collection of papers from the 2022 conference, which featured esteemed presenters from around the globe, has now been published by Continuing Legal Education British Columbia as Donoghue v Stevenson—The Immortal Snail—90th Anniversary Conference Papers.

This collection offers perspectives from each of the speakers on how Donoghue v Stevenson continues to resonate in so many jurisdictions, including New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia, Israel, South Africa, Ireland, the Caribbean, Canada, as well as within Scotland and the rest of the UK.

The collection is CLEBC’s second publication on the topic; the first was Donoghue v Stevenson and the Modern Law of Negligence–The Paisley Papers from the 1990 conference.

Michael Clancy, Director of Law Reform at the Law Society of Scotland, organised the conference and facilitated CLEBC’s involvement with this collection. He said: “The publication of this collection of papers provides a fantastic resource for all those interested in Stevenson v Donoghue and the immortal snail in the bottle. It is a wonderful legacy of our global conference marking the 90th anniversary of this groundbreaking case which is the foundation of modern consumer law in many jurisdictions around the world.”

You can also watch the conference as part of our CPD on demand.
