Fraud alert – bogus solicitor

2nd March 2023 | Fraud alerts

What’s the scam?

We have been alerted to a fake law firm called 'Dorfman, George & Partners LLP', claiming to have offices in Aberdeen and London.

There are two scam websites operating and claiming to be this firm: 'www.dorfmangeorgellp.com' and 'www.dorfmangeorgesllp.com'.

The websites provide a postal address of 11 Back Wynd, Aberdeen, AB10 1JN. This misuses the address of a genuine firm of solicitors based in Aberdeen called Michael Horsman & Co Solicitors.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has confirmed that it does not authorise a firm by the name of 'Dorfman, George & Partners LLP'.

There is also no firm by this name regulated by the Law Society of Scotland.

For further information about this scam, please visit the SRA website.

What should I do?

We advise solicitors, their colleagues and members of the public to not engage with or respond to any communication from a firm calling itself ‘'Dorfman, George & Partners LLP' or provide any personal information on its websites.

When seeking to work with a solicitor or law firm, it is important to carry out due diligence and check the authenticity of the firm. You can check the details of all regulated Scottish solicitors and law firms using our Find a Solicitor search tool on our website.

If you suspect a fraud or online scam, you should report this to Police Scotland by calling 101. Where a fraud or scam has actually taken place, this should also be reported directly to Police Scotland. You can find out more about reporting crime in Scotland here.
