Lorna Jack, Chief Executive of the Law Society of Scotland, has commented on the announcement today, 30 April 2021, that McClure Solicitors has been acquired by Jones Whyte LLP.
She said: “We are sad to hear that McClure Solicitors has gone into administration. It represents the loss of a highly regarded legal name, with the firm’s long history going back almost 170 years from its original offices in Greenock to operating across the UK.
“Administrators FRP have overseen the transfer of business to Jones Whyte LLP and we understand that all partners and staff from McClure Solicitors will transfer to the firm.
“There has been ongoing, significant change within the legal services sector in recent years, with a challenging economic environment compounded by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. However the legal profession has previously proven itself to be resilient and responsive to change, and this transfer of business represents a major expansion for Jones Whyte. I wish the firm every success for the future.
“The arrangements being put into place should ensure a smooth transfer, with as little disruption to clients as possible. We will work with both firms and provide advice and any support that our members may need.”
Clients of McClure Solicitors should continue to contact their solicitor about any ongoing business or transactions.
There is information on the Law Society’s website about the professional support available for solicitors, accredited paralegals and trainee solicitors.
