Seven new solicitor advocates granted extended rights of audience

16th December 2022 | Law Society news

Law Society of Scotland Vice President Sheila Webster (fourth from right) with new solicitor advocates (left to right) Christopher MacFarlane, Frankie Morgan, Ron Mackenna, Trina Sinclair, Clare Russell, Robert Weir and Neil Martin.

Seven new solicitor advocates have been introduced to the Court in a ceremony at the Court of Session in Edinburgh today.

With Law Society of Scotland President Murray Etherington unable to attend due to the inclement weather, Vice President Sheila Webster invited Lord Arthurson to administer the Declaration of Allegiance to the solicitor advocates during today’s ceremony.

The newly appointed solicitor advocates now have extended rights of audience to appear in the High Courts and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

The new solicitor advocates are:

  • Christopher MacFarlane from Collins & Co
  • Ron Mackenna from Ron Mackenna Defence
  • Neil Martin from COPFS
  • Frankie Morgan from COPFS
  • Clare Russell from Craig Wood Solicitors
  • Trina Sinclair from COPFS
  • Robert Weir from COPFS

Sheila Webster said: “It’s an unexpected honour to be called up for today’s ceremony. Congratulations to our new solicitor advocates for their hard work and dedication that has been rewarded with extended rights of audience.

“We’ve been pleased to see this year being so busy in terms of new solicitor advocate admissions. It’s a good sign for the profession, after several years of disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Today’s event is the fifth Introduction to Court ceremony held in 2022, with around 40 solicitor advocates granted extended rights of audience across the year.
