Support plan launched to bolster smaller firms
The Law Society of Scotland has released details of its plans for providing enhanced support to smaller law firms.
The support plan has been developed based on input from smaller firm solicitors gathered in research commissioned by the Law Society.
Law Society support and initiatives will be targeted in six key areas:
- Recruitment and retention
- Future planning, partnership and business ownership
- Anti-money laundering
- Technology
- Wellbeing
- Legal aid
Law Society President Patricia Thom said: “This support plan is our response to what smaller firms have told us about the challenges they’re dealing with and the opportunities they’re wanting to capitalise on. Smaller firms are thriving and we want that strength to continue and be built upon.
“We have focused on six key areas where we believe additional support and advice for smaller firms will have a positive impact. This will also include renewed promotion of pre-existing initiatives, as our research showed members are not always aware of support that already exists.
“This support plan is about promoting the importance of smaller firms to Scotland’s legal sector and the benefits of pursuing a career in this sub-sector, along with support to make better use of technology, ensure that legal aid is put back onto a sustainable footing and enhance wellbeing.
“As a former smaller firm solicitor myself, I’d like to congratulate my Law Society colleagues on their diligent work firstly in rolling out research and now with this action plan.”
