24 hours left to vote in Society Council elections

17th May 2016 | law society of scotland

Voting closes at noon tomorrow (18 May) for this year’s Law Society of Scotland Council elections, with solicitors working in Glasgow and Fife having a choice of candidates for thei local representatives.

Nine candidates are standing for the five seats representing the Glasgow & Strathkelvin constituency, and three for the two seats for the Cupar, Dunfermline & Kirkcaldy constituency. Candidates for Perth and for Greenock, Kilmarnock & Paisley were returned unopposed. (Click here for full report.)

Successful candidates will be appointed as Council members on 27 May, at the meeting which follows the Society's AGM on Thursday 26 May.

Lorna Jack, chief executive of the Law Society, commented: "Council members play an important role at the Law Society. They are responsible for representing the views of Scottish solicitors, supporting members in their local area and making decisions affecting the profession. I would encourage our members to take the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidates.”
