Ashurst announces Glasgow "LGBT Allies" programme

10th October 2016 | employment

International law firm Ashurst has announced the launch of its LGBT Allies programme in its Glasgow support centre as part of its wider commitment to diversity and inclusion.

LGBT Allies are people who, irrespective of their own sexual orientation, recognise the importance of acceptance and inclusion for lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) colleagues in the workplace and in the wider community and who actively articulate their support.

Such support can include challenging prejudice where they find it, attending and encouraging attendance to LGBT events, and offering ongoing support and advice to LGBT colleagues.

The programme expands the scope of the firm's existing LGBT network, Spectrum, so that whether members of the firm identify as LGBT or not, they feel equally valued.

Mike Polson, managing partner of Ashurst Glasgow, commented: "At Ashurst, diversity and inclusion are key to the success of the firm and crucial in making Ashurst a great place to work. Our LGBT Allies programme is just one of a number of new diversity initiatives that the firm is developing. This programme is for everyone, and reflects all of our firm's values, in particular collaboration, integrity and accountability."
