Boyd Legal promotes three to management board

8th September 2016 | careers , practice management

Edinburgh-headquartered Boyd Legal has appointed three of its solicitors to its management board, as it plans further expansion of its practice.

Rachael Brandon, who heads the equity release department, and Claire Ferguson of the private client department both started their careers at Boyd Legal via work experience, before completing their solicitor qualification and progressing to become associates.

The third promotion is Graeme Thomson, a former solicitor with Boyd Legal who spent 10 years as an associate at Lindsays before returning to Boyd Legal, where he heads the private client department.

Managing director Peter Boyd said the promotions and the recent merger with Kirkcaldy-based Gibson & Spears, Dow & Son highlighted Boyd Legal’s focus to drive forward its growth plans. The promotions showed the value of legal firms nurturing their own talent.

He commented: “We have always set great store on business acumen and legal skills. Both Rachael and Claire impressed us as trainees. They both come from backgrounds of family businesses. Law is first and foremost a business and they understand that work ethic.

“Graeme has thorough experience and understanding of estate planning law, which is an invaluable asset in an increasingly important area.

“All three will gain management experience and are important to the future progress of the business."

He added: “The promotions also allow Boyd Legal to continue to buck the trend of falling confidence among small businesses over the impact of the Brexit vote."
