Boyd Legal returns to estate agency as Fife firm comes on board

5th July 2016

Edinburgh practice Boyd Legal Solicitors is re-establishing its estate agency business at the expense of high volume mortgage referral conveyancing, in a shift of strategy announced today.

Founded as Boyd Property in 2004, primarily as estate and letting agents, it diversified into other service areas after the recession, and now has office space in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness, along with will databases in Coatbridge and Larkhall.

However following a strategic review of how it wants to position itself in the legal market, it has decided that high volume conveyancing does not fit with its aims, and it has divested itself of that part of its business.

Managing director Peter Boyd commented: “High quality client care is at the core of Boyd Legal and it was becoming evident that the mortgage referral conveyancing work was having a detrimental effect on our customer service, staff and our attempts to grow the business.

“Although we have enjoyed a tremendous relationship with our referral partner, it is the sensible decision to end this. We have also parted company with director Mark Hendrie, and we wish him and the rest of the team all the best for the future."

The firm has acquired long-established Kirkcaldy practice Gibson, Spears, Dow & Son, which will be renamed Boyd Legal and will provide all the main legal services to Fife clients under partner Peter Aiken, supported by the Edinburgh team.

It has also appointed Kerry Wells, who joins from McQueen Legal, as property sales director. She has more than 15 years of experience in estate agency, and has repeatedly won Best Estate Agent of the Year for Customer Service at www.allagents.co.uk’s People Awards.
