CMS recognised for young people development work

12th September 2018 | education-training

Legal practice CMS has been named as Scotland’s Employer of the Month by Developing the Young Workforce (DYW), the Scottish Government’s national strategy for strengthening links between businesses and education.

CMS was selected on the back of its investment into a number of initiatives that engage with young people to help build skills, confidence and knowledge. These include support of the MCR Pathways programme which provides mentoring for young people, and its involvement in social mobility business partnerships for youth facing socio-economic challenges.

The firm's own Prime programme also provides quality work experience for young people from less privileged backgrounds, while its CMS bursary scheme helps graduates entering the legal profession.

DYW’s headline aim is to reduce youth unemployment by 40% by 2021. Its strategy is delivered by employer led regional groups across Scotland. Since 2014, groups have been launched in Glasgow, Ayrshire, Edinburgh, East Lothian & Midlothian, Fife, North East, North Highland and West Region.

Chris Rae, CMS’s corporate responsibility partner for Scotland said: “We are very pleased to be named as Employer of the Month in recognition of our commitment to developing young people. We combine the expertise, talent and passion of our people to support a wide range of education and social mobility initiatives that we hope will inspire the next generation of professionals and equip them with the knowledge, skills and experience to succeed. We are delighted to support the work of DYW and would encourage all businesses, large or small, to get involved.”
