Double employer recognition for SLCC

1st June 2016

The Scottish Legal Complaints Commission has won double recognition in the month of May, after being made an official partner organisation of 50:50 by 2020 along with its accreditation as a living wage employer.

A diverse advertising strategy during the recent recruitment exercise for new board members, using social media and equality networking groups, brought an unprecedented level of interest, and the board already meets the 50:50 by 2020 target. With a further recruitment exercise planned later in this year it sees another opportunity to broaden the board's experience and expertise.

Since its inception the SLCC has always paid at least the living wage to all staff, and it has now been formally accredited by the Living Wage Foundation following work to ensure that all its suppliers are also working towards these goals.

Chief executive Neil Stevenson commented: “We are delighted at both of these recognitions of our culture and values. To deliver a high quality and efficient service to consumers and lawyers we need talented individuals with diverse thinking and problem solving at every level of our organisation. Both initiatives have helped us audit and improve our own approach, and the external verification helps us demonstrate to others that we are an organisation focused on best practice around equality and employment practice.”

Following extensive consultation and feedback earlier in the year, the SLCC will launch a new strategy in the summer. One of the five priority areas is to ensure the organisation is a high performing complaints body and employer, attracting and retaining talented people.
