Drummond Miller turns to bank after "challenging" year

9th March 2018 | practice management

Profits at legal firm Drummond Miller fell by more than half in the year to 31 May 2017, severely hitting its members' remuneration, the Herald has reported.

Accounts filed at Companies House show that profit before members' remuneration and profit shares was down from £1.2m to £504,284 over the year, on turnover down 8% to £4.6m. The average members' remuneration dropped by 57% from £98,259 to £42,023.

During the year, prominent litigation lawyer Cameron Fyfe left the firm after being struck off the roll of solicitors for professional misconduct while at his previous firm, Ross Harper.

Partner Charles Ogilvie stated in the accounts that the year had been "challenging as a result of staff movements". The firm had agreed a new finance agreement with its bank, which Mr Ogilvie said left it on a stronger platform.

During the year staff numbers increased by five to 92, and legal staff by two to 32.
