Easter opening confirmed for Glasgow Tribunals Centre

14th March 2018 | civil litigation

The Glasgow Tribunals Centre at Atlantic Quay, Glasgow, shared by Scottish Courts & Tribunals Service (SCTS) and HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS), will open to the public on Tuesday 3 April, immediately after Easter weekend.

Offering "a flagship facility for tribunal users in Scotland", the centre contains 34 tribunal hearing rooms, nine waiting rooms, a range of consultation rooms and café. There is office space for members of the tribunals’ judiciary and around 200 SCTS and HMCTS staff.

From 3 April, the Housing & Property Chamber, the Health & Education Chamber and the Council Tax Reduction Review Panel, supported by SCTS, along with the Social Security & Child Support and Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunals supported by HMCTS, will operate from the new centre. Further tribunals supported by HMCTS will follow at a later date.

Eric McQueen, chief executive of Scottish Courts & Tribunals Service commented: “This is a unique collaboration and a forward thinking one which is intended to benefit tribunal users in Scotland. We are providing improved and flexible facilities in an accessible location and at a time when the demand for tribunals’ services is increasing. The centre will provide great hearing facilities in central Scotland, but we will continue to offer hearings throughout Scotland where required.”

Staff will begin moving into the centre during the week of 23 March, from HMCTS's current premises in Wellington House, Glasgow and SCTS's temporary location at 1 Atlantic Quay, Glasgow. Tribunal hearings will commence at the Glasgow Tribunals Centre from early April for both organisations.

Contact details will be: The Glasgow Tribunals Centre, 20 York Street, Glasgow G2 8GT. The new contact telephone number for HMCTS will be 0300 790 6234; SCTS will remain as Housing & Property Chamber: 0141 302 5900; Health & Education Chamber: 0141 302 5860; Council Tax Reduction Review Panel: 0141 302 5840.
