Falkirk's MTM Defence Lawyers opens in Edinburgh

9th September 2016 | practice management

Falkirk criminal law practice MTM Defence Lawyers has opened a permanent new office in Edinburgh, to meet growing demand.

Over the past two years the firm estimates its business in Edinburgh has grown by some 300%, and it has now taken the decision to open a dedicated office at 5 Semple Street in the Tollcross area.

Founded in 1993 and now one of the largest criminal defence practices in Scotland, the firm's lawyers include two solicitor advocates with rights of audience in the High Court.

Director Neil Hay commented: "We have seen growth in private clients approaching the firm directly and in referrals from other leading legal firms without criminal law expertise looking for our criminal law specialism."

As well as covering the range of criminal defence work from breaches of the peace to complex frauds, the firm said that a significant portion of its work involved giving advice to parents or spouses involved in separation or divorce: "These are often highly distressing cases where criminal allegations can be used as a ‘tools’ by one side to try to leverage a favourable outcome, particularly in cases involving access to, or contact with, children."
