Farquhar succeeds Carr as chair of Anderson Strathern

29th March 2017 | careers , practice management

Corporate partner Bruce Farquhar is to take over as chair of legal firm Anderson Strathern, as incumbent Robert Carr stands down on 31 March after 12 years in the post.

Starting his legal career as a court lawyer in Glasgow, Mr Farquhar joined Anderson Strathern in 2001 and moving into corporate law. He set up the firm’s renewable energy practice and has played a significant role in building the firm’s client base across the UK, Europe and Asia as well as in Scotland.

Mr Carr remains a partner and will lead Anderson Strathern's newly established Advocacy and Legal Opinions Unit.

Mr Farquhar commented: “Having been part of Anderson Strathern for the last 16 years it is an understatement to say I am genuinely honoured to take over as chair. The firm is a dynamic player on the Scottish, UK and international scene having had a proud history of serving clients since the 18th century. We will continue to invest in growth opportunities, our people and our technology to build an even stronger firm that is both an employer of choice for Scotland’s most promising young lawyers and a collaborative team that can deliver the best advice and service to our clients.”

As chair he will lead the firm working alongside managing partner Murray McCall, who added: “Bruce Farquhar brings great legal acumen and a strong background in business development, growth through new clients, lateral hires and acquisitions and has built a practice area from scratch. He brings a fantastic range of qualities to the post of chair as we look ahead to a bright future and further growth for Anderson Strathern."

He said the firm owed an "enormous debt of gratitude" to Mr Carr for his 12 years as chair, his inspiring leadership and his significant contribution in business terms.
