Firms strike out for charity with "Battle of Bands" and "Bag it" efforts

13th October 2016 | Charities

Three Scottish legal firms have joined in unusual fundraising events for charity.

Aberdeen neighbours Stronachs and FG Burnett locked horns, or rather guitars and drums, in a "Battle of the Bands", while staff at Inksters' branches around the country went in for a "Bag it" challenge in honour of a member of staff who has recovered from a heart attack.

The two Abredeen practices have run an inter-office charity challenge for the past five years, and this year's event saw "Bobby and the Bobcats", led by Stronachs partner Bobby McDonald, take on "Where's Watty?" with FG Burnett's Graeme Watt and others. More than 200 people at Aberdeen venue Babylon gave a live verdict on their respective gigs, with the Bobcats narrowly edging the contest after a tiebreak.

Both firms were delighted to have raised more than £3,000 for Children in Need.

Previous challenges have seen employees taking part in a variety of competitions including fitting as many people as possible into a Mini.

Meanwhile Inksters kicked off their winter 2016 events and fundraising in aid of the British Heart Foundation by crowning their "Bag it. Beat it" champion. Staff members in all Inksters' offices were asked to rummage through their wardrobes and donate any unwanted but good quality items. The winner, Joanne Romanis in the Forfar office, also won a voucher for her restaurant of choice.

Inksters' Evonne Morrison said: “It has been a good excuse for many to donate unused goods that will be sold on to raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation. The BHF is a charity that touches so many, not least Inksters, with our very own Claire Maguire returning to work, fighting fit after having had a heart attack.”
