Five new partners head Brodies promotions round

3rd May 2018 | careers

A 27-strong promotions round, including five new partners, has been announced by Brodies, the largest Scottish-headquartered law firm.

Angela McCulloch, David Lightbody, Elaine Petterson, Jane McMonagle and Louise Kelso step up to partner in their respective areas of personal & family; corporate; real estate; energy & infrastructure and insurance & risk. They bring the number of partners at Brodies to 97.

Eight new managing associates have been named as: in personal & family, Hayley Robertson, Glasgow and Leigh Gould, Aberdeen; in commercial property, Claire Reid and Leonie Hall, both Edinburgh; and in litigation, Niall McLean and Donald Muir, both Glasgow, and Louise Duffy and Kate Donachie, both Edinburgh.

There are 14 new associates: in litigation, Gemma Nicholson and Chloe Postlethwaite, both Glasgow, and Laura Borland in Edinburgh; in corporate & commercial, Lyes Kennouche and Eve Brazier, both Aberdeen, Bob Langridge, Edinburgh and Jordan Halliday, Glasgow; in personal & family, Susie Mountain, Aberdeen, and Nicola Neal and Helen Kidd, both Edinburgh; in real estate, Miriam Armstrong, Edinburgh, Andrew Askew-Bain, Aberdeen and Jennifer Guy, Glasgow; and in banking, Peter Brading, Edinburgh.

Nick Scott, Brodies’ managing partner as of this week after Bill Drummond stepped down, commented: “The individual efforts and contribution that each of our newly promoted colleagues has made to our clients and our firm is recognised today. I wish them all the best in their new roles.

“These promotions mark the first down payment on the investment in our people that we are committed to make as we implement our strategic plans for the period to 2021. The breadth of sectors represented in these promotions also demonstrates the resilience of our clients, and the opportunity that remains for well-run independent law firms.”

The firm has also retained 13 of its trainees as newly qualified lawyers and is looking for a further 12 to join its newly qualified ranks in the autumn. Since 1 January 2018 the firm has made 56 new appointments, consisting of 29 in legal and 27 in the finance, IT, HR and business development areas of the firm, taking the total number of people at the firm, including partners, to 645.
