Former chairman leaves Thorntons after 45 years

2nd June 2017 | careers

Legal firm Thorntons has said farewell to a former chairman and his secretary, who have retired after more than 90 years' service to the firm between them.

Corporate law specialist Jack Robertson has stepped down after 45 years at Thorntons, along with his loyal secretary Kathleen McClulloch, who has worked with him throughout that time.

Mr Robertson, who was chairman of the firm until November last year, was awarded an Outstanding Contribution award at The Courier Business Awards 2016, for his legal advice over the years to many companies in the Tayside area and beyond. Throughout his career, he has supported, mentored and helped shape local businesses, some of which have grown to become national and international successes.

He will remain as a part-time consultant to Thorntons.

Mr Robertson commented: “I’ve enjoyed my time working at Thorntons and I will miss my colleagues and clients, with whom I have built lasting relationships over my 45 years.

“It certainly doesn’t feel like five decades but the service for my clients has always been my priority and I know that I leave them in very capable and trusted hands.”

Colin Graham, his successor as chairman, added: “Jack is a sounding board and trusted adviser to his clients in all issues affecting their business dealings. He has been a pillar of the firm for his clients and fellow colleagues.

“Thorntons has transformed from a small practice to become one of the top 10 legal firms in Scotland under Jack’s leadership and we would like to wish him a very happy and well deserved retirement.”
