HBJ Gateley continues Scottish growth in latest figures

27th January 2017 | practice management

Legal firm HBJ Gateley's Scottish practice enjoyed a further year of growth in the year to 30 April 2016, according to figures released today.

Turnover rose by 9.4% from £19.3m to £21.5m, while profits were up 6.4% from £9.3m to £9.9m.

The firm, which has offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, is severing its connection with the stock market-listed Gateley plc to merge with Addleshaw Goddard, a move expected to complete by 1 June 2017.

Staff numbers grew in the period covered by the accounts from 194 to 201, including 123 fee earners, though the firm ended the year with one partner fewer at 46.

Senior partner Malcolm McPherson said the strong performance reflected a clear strategy of high quality client service, expertise in key sectors, and depth of full service market offering, in particular strength advising entrepreneurs, high-growth businesses and their investors.

He commented: “We are very proud of our continued growth and strong performance, particularly during a period of unprecedented change for clients, the economy, and the legal sector.

“We have continued to invest in our industry knowledge to better serve our clients as they look to navigate these uncharted economic and political waters. We are looking to the future confidently in what will be a landmark year for our firm, our people and our clients.”
