Honours for Queen’s solicitor and commissioners’ secretary

14th June 2016

The Queen’s solicitor in Scotland is among those honoured in Her Majesty’s 90th birthday honours list.

Bruce Wood, a partner in the Edinburgh office of Morton Fraser and a former chairman of the firm, was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO). His appointment to the Queen is a personal one.

Also in the honours list, Professor Sue Black, director of the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification at the University of Dundee, a leading forensic anthropologist who has given evidence in a number of high profile criminal prosecutions, was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire for services to forensic anthropology.

An MBE for services to law and order in Scotland was awarded to Joan Melville, a longserving employee of the Scottish Law Commission who is personal secretary to the chairman, chief executive and commissioners.

Lord Smith of Kelvin, the architect of the post-independence referendum devolution proposals implemented in the Scotland Act 2016, becomes a Companion of Honour “for public service, particularly in Scotland”.
