Karen Gibbons becomes Family Law Association chair

2nd December 2014 | careers , family-child law

Karen Gibbons, an associate in the Edinburgh office of Balfour+Manson, has become the chair of the Family Law Association in Scotland.

Recently accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in family law, Ms Gibbons, has practised exclusively in family law since qualifying and has a varied case load, comprising financial and child related cases both in the sheriff courts and Court of Session, as well as undertaking bar reports. She is also dual qualified in Scots and English law.

Vice chair for the past two years, she succeeds Sally Swinney of Blackwood & Smith, Peebles.

The new vice chair is Margaret Carlin of Criggies Solicitors, Lanark.

Shona Smith, partner and head of family law at Balfour+Manson commented: “I am delighted to see Karen assume the role of chair of FLA. It continues a longstanding tradition of the team being fully involved with the organisation. Her accreditation as a specialist is a just recognition of her ability and experience in the field."
