Scullion Law hosts Lanarkshire schools debating tournament

Local legal firm Scullion Law has for the ninth time supported the Interschools Debating Cup for Lanarkshire schools. The final took place at the South Lanarkshire Council HQ, with Holy Cross narrowly being judged the winners ahead of Hamilton Grammar. The teams had to contest the motion "This House believes that technology makes us feel more alone".

Five schools initially entered the tournament, also including Duncanrig Secondary, St Andrews & St Brides High, and Uddingston Grammar. Scullion Law is looking forward to hosting the event again next year to celebrate its 10th year of the Debating Cup.

Nicholas Scullion, managing partner, commented: "The Debating Cup Final was a great success… and we were delighted that it was so well attended with up to 50 people from across Lanarkshire including the Provost of South Lanarkshire, Margaret Mitchell MSP, Ian Leitch CBE, and 10 members of the South Lanarkshire Council Education Resource Department.

"We would like to thank the local businesses who also supported the event including Fergus Loudon of Tunnocks, Ann Doyle and team from Hamilton Park Racecourse and Jennifer from Equis Hamilton, thank you for providing prizes and words of encouragement to the pupils."

Tunnock’s of Uddingston donated luxury hampers as a prize for the winners. Hamilton Park Racecourse invited all the pupils who took part to an exclusive VIP behind-the-scenes tour of Hamilton Park. Equis Hamilton provided two free tubs of 500 ml ice cream to every pupil who took part along with words of encouragement.
