Society and Scottish Parliament launch 2019 student competition

12th March 2019 | education-training , law society of scotland

Students taking the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice, or in the last two years of their LLB, have the chance to win three weeks’ paid work experience in the Scottish Parliament and a £500 cash prize, in this year's competition run jointly by the Law Society of Scotland and the Scottish Parliament.

The prize is offered for the best blog, aimed at young voters in Scotland, on the theme: “The Scottish Parliament is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. What piece of legislation passed by the Scottish Parliament in its first 20 years do you think is the most significant for Scotland and how does this make a positive difference to the lives of the people of Scotland?”

Students can use any medium, whether a traditional blog, which may include images and/or relevant video content, or a video blog. Entries should be no longer than 750 words, or three minutes of audio or video.

The winner will be picked on the basis of:

  • ability to keep content relevant;
  • creativity and originality shown;
  • depth and accuracy of the topic analysis;
  • knowledge of the Scottish Parliament’s work and strategies;
  • ability to break through the legal jargon to convey a clear, simple message that youngest voters can engage with.

The work experience offered for the winner will be with the Parliament's Legal Services team, which has a varied workload advising all teams and offices across the Parliament.

Entries should be submitted by Friday 19 April 2019 to Darren Kerr (DarrenKerr@lawscot.org.uk), who will deal with any questions.
