Society Council nomination deadline approaches

13th April 2017 | law society of scotland

Scottish solicitors have just under two weeks left to submit nominations for this year's elections to the Law Society of Scotland's governing Council.

Each year one third of constituency seats on Council, and this year's votes will take place in the following sheriff court districts:

  • Aberdeen, Banff, Peterhead & Stonehaven (two seats)
  • Ayr, Dumfries, Kirkcudbright & Stranraer (two seats)
  • Airdrie, Hamilton & Lanark (two seats)
  • Edinburgh (five seats).

Completed nomination and candidate information forms have to be submitted to the Society's registrar, David Cullen by 12 noon on Wednesday 26 April 2017. To be nominated (or to nominate themselves), solicitors have to be a member of the Society working in the relevant constituency and have the support of two proposers who also qualify in that way.

Voting will take place from 4 May to 18 May 2017, and successful candidates will take up their new roles as of 27 May 2017.
