SYLA announces two more events

9th October 2015

Two new forthcoming events have been announced by the Scottish Young Lawyers' Association.

On Thursday 29 October SYLA will join forces with the Scottish Legal Action Group (SCOLAG) and the SSC Society to host an evening seminar on the legal aspects of the current refugee crisis, with speaker Mungo Bovey QC.

The seminar is intended to put the headline news into its legal context, and to address some of the issues that arise such as the extent to which there is a right to chose where to claim asylum and the operation of the Dublin III Regulation on the processing of asylum claims in Europe.

The free seminar, followed by a drinks reception, will be held from 7-10pm in court 1, Parliament House, Edinburgh. Click here to register.

Then on Saturday 7 November the annual Criminal Day Conference takes place in the Corinthian, Glasgow, in association with the Scottish Criminal Bar Association. Speakers include Thomas Ross, SCBA President (eyewitness identification), Donald Findlay QC (jury speeches masterclass), Drew Mackenzie (trials with co-accused), Simon Gilbride (automatism), Shelagh McCall QC (appeals), Fred Macintosh (stop and search), and Brian McConnachie QC (cross examination). A total of six hours' CPD is available. Click here to register.
